About the Antique
This all-bisque Scootles doll
measures 6 3/4" in height. Scootles
has right-glancing blue intaglio eyes,
prominent cheek dimples, deeply
sculpted curly hair painted yellow
and over-sized loop-jointed arms
with spread chubby fingers. Scootles
is in good condition but does have a
chip from the back of the right arm at
the joint. The bisque has its original
painted finish although a bit uneven.
The arms are a bit lighter color than
the body which is common in dolls
made in Japan. The arms and the
bodies were often manufactured at
different times and assembled later.
Scootles is stamped "Japan" in red on
the back with "Scootles" incised on
the bottom of one foot and "Rose
O'Neill" incised on the other foot. In
1925 Rose O'Neill sculpted her
newest creation, Scootles,
